Italian engineering at its best

The legendary developments of the company and its MHR racing line included air filters, cylinders and improved Multivar gearboxes, which were specially developed for racing. High-performance versions of special crankshafts for Piaggio mopeds were also gradually launched on the market under the MHR label. Durability, robust design, high-quality materials and maximum precision in planning and production - this is what the parts from Bologna stand for. Innovation and inventiveness still characterise Malossi today. All parts designed by the Italian moped manufacturer are developed entirely within the company. Proven tuning parts are constantly being revised to make them even more powerful thanks to the possibilities offered by state-of-the-art design and production technology. The state-of-the-art crankshafts in the MHR racing line for Piaggio mopeds are impressive proof of the company's unconditional commitment to quality. The company's innovative strength is also demonstrated by the renewed revision of the basic design of the Multivar gearbox, which has further improved its performance.

The beginnings: carburettor tuning in Bologna

The history of Malossi began as a small family business in 1930, founded by Signore Armando Malossi under the illustrious name of ‘Cicli e Moto Malossi’ and specialising in the repair and maintenance of motorbikes. During the Second World War, the company moved away from Bologna and set up shop just outside the northern Italian city. In the post-war period, there were signs of the direction in which the company was to develop: In addition to motorbike repairs, Malossi specialised in the maintenance and repair of light motorised two-wheelers, which became increasingly popular in the post-war period. The rise of the company is closely linked to the emergence of the first scooters and the first mopeds from Piaggio. In the 1950s, Malossi took over the company Mar, which had made a name for itself as a supplier to Dell'Orto, formerly the world's largest carburettor manufacturer. The move to Calderara di Reno followed in the 1970s. At this time, the focus was increasingly placed on tuning parts and racing. The final breakthrough came in 1978 with a tuning kit for Yamaha YT 50 motorbikes. The success of the kit was groundbreaking, with over 9000 of these tuning kits sold in the first year. Many more tuning kits from Malossi have followed to this day.
